Welcome to Logansport, Jesus Angel Pedro-Miguel.

The Logansport Memorial Hospital welcomed the first Cass County baby of 2023 Sunday morning at 9:25 a.m. The baby boy arrived weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces. Both baby and mother were healthy Tuesday morning, Jan. 3.

Jesus is the son of Maria Miguel-Jose and Sebastian Pedro-Gaspar. He has four sisters ranging in age from nine to one waiting at home, excited to meet their baby brother.

The sisters had been facetiming and calling their parents, their father said, since the baby was born and were ready for everyone to come home.

Dr. Timothy Hall performed the delivery.

Pedro-Gaspar said he was super excited to have a boy.

Both parents said they were excited to teach the baby how to play and speak.

Having a New Year’s baby was never on the parents’ minds. The pregnancy was a surprise.

“It was a shock,” said Pedro-Gaspar through an interpreter. “I brought her to the hospital because she wasn’t feeling good. We didn’t know what it was that was going on with her.”

Pedro-Gaspar and Miguel-Jose were both eager to take Jesus home so he could meet the rest of his family Tuesday morning. The community supplied the parents many gifts and donations to take with them.

Items that were donated to the 2023 New Year’s baby included New Year’s onesies from Ocolo Designs, sleep sacks from Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder, a convertible car seat and car seat stroller combo from WHC Physicians, a Frida baby rinser, bath toy and Aveeno bath set from Duane Flora Construction, a Radio Flyer Wagon from Matthew Barrett, a gift basket from the Logansport Memorial Gift Shop, a play mat from Cole Hardwood, a pack & play and diapers from the Logansport Memorial Hospital Family Birth Center staff, two smoke detectors and a fire extinguisher from the Logansport Fire Department, queen bed sheets and two cooling memory foam pillows from Gray Mill, white 14 karat stud earrings from Arnold Jewelry, a V-tech video monitor from Logansport Pediatrics Physicians, a gift certificate from Bruno’s Pizza, a Carhartt stocking cap from Dale Hardy’s, a gift basket from Black Dog Coffee, a gift certificate from El Arriero Mexican Restaurant, a stroller cover and booster seat chair from Logansport Police Department and a gift bag from the Enders family.
